“I previously studied Medical Science at Umm Al-Qara University in Saudi Arabia. I was attracted to the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) because of the specialist nature of the Human Anatomy course.
“Being a student at CAHID has given me the opportunity to study amongst an international group of students and staff. As part of my MSc dissertation I get to work with the orthopaedics doctors at the local hospital, Ninewells – one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe, which has been a great experience.
“One of the reasons I chose to study at Dundee was because CAHID has an exceptional Thiel cadaver facility. Thiel embalming makes the cadavers very flexible and the University of Dundee is the only university in the UK that offers this facility. Groups of three or four students are assigned a complete body that they can work with throughout the duration of their degree.
“For me, there were three other important factors that influenced my decision to come to Dundee. There are a number of mosques, the University has a good prayer room and there are many Arabic grocery shops in the city. There is also a really good Saudi Students Club. We play football every Friday and go out for food together!
“The University of Dundee was very good at supporting me with finding accommodation. I stay at the City Quay flats where I have a great view of the river Tay. There are lots of activities to do in the city and Dundee is a good place to come if you have a young family as there are good nurseries near the campus.
“Dundee is a small and modern city and everybody is very friendly. There are lots of parks in the area and it is beautiful living by the coast. At one point in my life I went from living in Saudi Arabia where it was very warm, to living in Ohio in the USA where it was very cold. Coming to Dundee was good as the weather is nice and mild here!
“I hope to pursue a PhD here and I truly believe that once you choose to study at the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification, nothing can stop you from achieving your academic goal!”
